Episode 22: Super Bowl, Super Sports, Super Comics!

Are you ready for some football?? The Super Bowl has come and gone, did you watch? Were you cheering along? Booing about the power outage? Well, Matt and Cat spent the weekend talking about Football, Trading Cards and the Interplanetary Olympics all thanks to some comic books!!

We kicked off with one big MARKETING MONSTROSITIES; an 8 page comic that explains the fun that is to be had with collecting trading cards. NFL Super Stars gave us all their tips as we traveled across the country, from Stadiums, to Niagara Falls and the Liberty Bell. Take a listen and get inspired to start collecting cards of your own!

For our RELATED READING we review Marvel’s NFL SUPER PRO comic book, issue #1. The origin story of the football super hero SUPER PRO! Ace Reporter by day, Super Hero by night! Are you ready for some football puns?

Lastly we did into DC Comic’s STRANGE SPORTS STORIES issue #3. Knights of the round table learn football and the Interplanetary Olympics time travel by pole vaulting. Did you know Matt used to Pole Valut? Cat totally learned something new, thanks to Comics!!

With the recent release of the time travel film LOOPER Matt and I dug into the back issue long boxes for a RELATED READING. We traveled with the DC Comics series TIME MASTERS from 1990. Rip Hunter the Time Lord travels in search of the Illuminati, does he succeed? Did Matt enjoy the ride? What do we rate TIME MASTERS on the Mylar Meter? Listen here and find out!

Earlier in September, on the 16th, Matt and I attended the Los Angeles pop culture convention; Stan Lee’s Comikaze Expo. We share our thoughts on our day of walking the aisles. Comics, movies, games, horror, all things pop culture related!

Then last but not least for Marketing Monstrosities I, Cat, share a Wonder Woman Dilemma that involves a train, kids at play along the tracks and Hostess Twinkies Sponge Cakes!

Episode 9: Bats, Cats, & Strays

The Matt and Cat channel is coming at you with a show focused on The Dark Knight…the Caped Crusader…The Batman!  We are here to go “Bat” crazy just for you, and your listening pleasure!

First up, we review a back issue of CATWOMAN #1 from Aug. 1993 for a little Related Reading.  Catwoman starts off  working for Bane in this series. Why would she work for Bane? Who is “the stray” she’s living with?  How many cat’s does she have in her apartment?  Listen to us and hear the answers. MEOW!!!


And then we continue our summer superhero movie watching for Panel to Projector as we review THE DARK KNIGHT RISES.  Batman comes out of a Howard Hughes-ian retirement to save Gotham City from Bane!  Catwoman is on the loose!  Batman has a new “Bat” Plane!  Take a listen and hear our cheers and jeers as we compare the movie to all the comics we’ve read.  Did we like it?  Did we hate it?  Come and listen in “Bat” fans!

Matt and Cat spend some quality time with the web-slinger Spider-Man. Actually, The Amazing Spider-Man! First up we take a look at an old back issue of The Amazing Spider-Man for some Related Reading. The issue in question is #6, the introduction to one of Spidey’s most famous super-villains, THE LIZARD.

From there we dive right in to our review of the latest summer blockbuster, THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN for Panel to Projector. Did we love it, or did we hate it? Did we nerd out in a nerd rage or spew compliments galore! Well tune in to hear what we rattled on about. It’s all about Marvel’s web-head SPIDER-MAN!!!!

Matt and Cat went on a Free Comic Book Day mission!

In Episode 2 we brought together our collected comics and rated our adventure to 6 comic book shops on Free Comic Book Day, from the Valley to Hollywood and back again we checked out: Earth 2, NE1/Blast Off Comics, Golden Apple, Meltdown, House of Secrets and Emerald Knights.

For RELATED READING we review 2 of our Free Comics; Vertigo’s THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO and Archaia Entertainment’s MOUSEGUARD – A Free Comic Book Day Hardcover Anthology!

We get to serious comic book talk when we give a few comic book characters their own spotlight in UNSUNG HEROES. Matt raves about Marvel’s Diamondback and I, Cat, give some praise to the DC sidekick Skeets.

The show is wrapped up with WORST VILLAIN SCHEMES as we each share a crackpot comic book scheme that is doomed to failure. The Justice League Europe face off against Sonar while the X-Men battle some big bugs and the super-villain The Locust.

Hello and welcome to MATT AND CAT HAVE BACK ISSUES!

Episode #1: Appropriate Level of Destuction or ALOD!

Matt and Cat have joined forces to battle the evil that is bland comic discussion. Our mission: To talk about Comic Books and Comic related topics…In this first episode we focus on Marvel’s THE AVENGERS!  We both saw the movie on Friday, adding to it’s big box office numbers, and we came together to discuss our thoughts for PANEL TO PROJECTOR, the segment where we review a movie and see how it fared jumping from the panel pages to the big screen.

After that we picked up a few of our Back Issues of THE AVENGERS from the 80′s and 90′s for some RELATED READING.  During our comic discussion we cover a lot of Marvel character history and both agreed about how much we dislike Rob Liefeld’s artwork!
